After Wichita Falls, we went to Throckmorton, Fort worth and Dallas for 3 days. And then, went to Houston. At the Throckmorton, we were able to see an artist's studio and saw some outdoor sculptures that installed around the town. We enjoyed big longhorn sculpture, big fish sculpture, funny-man sculpture.. and..his studio was so exciting! A studio and house is located in one big space that separate with wall. And living space looks like..resort hotel! It has swimming pool, bar counter, office..and artist's favorite things and collections are displayed everywhere!
We ate traditional Texas style meal and had fun time until night.
After enjoyed a bit of Texas style life, we went to some galleries and museums at Fort Worth and Dallas. "Border Cantos" @Amon Carter Museum of American Art was very impressive. Its about the border of Mexico and US. And exhibition of KAWS @Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth was interesting. I think it's not just commercial factor. Anyway we went to Nasher Sculpture Center and DMA, too. I'm glad to meet Gormley's work.
At Houston, we went..yeah! of course!! Rothko chapel, Menil Collection, Cy Twombly, Dan Flavin. I had an experience similar to the experience in Joshua tree National Park at Rothko Chapel. That was mysterious! I saw just grey color at first, and then I recognized and felt a lot of colors on those paintings. I found the difference of each piece and when I close to the painting the difference become big and when I took distance from those, the difference of each picture become small. I felt it is similar to the human group. We can't to take photo of inside. So I don't have any picture of Menil Collection. We were able to meet some artists and to see their studio. One of them was Trenton Doyle Hancock. (http://www.art21.org/artists/trenton-doyle-hancock) I heard that he is one of the significant, famous artist in the U.S. now. One of a professor of the university that we have had the exchange show at the museum of that university MSU Texas, contacted him for us. I appreciate! I'm same age with Trenton. So I found similar things to his sense and my idea. For examle, he refers to inside of human body and outside that like habit. His artworks have dynamism. I studied a lot!!
